But When I Became a Woman, I Put Away Girlish Things

Key Verse Reference: 2 Timothy 2:22
So, how do we put away girlish things?  Take a look at the key verse reference.  That may feel like a lot to some of us, so lets break it down word by word.

Redefined, our key verse looks like this:
Lets ask ourselves some questions based on the verse we just dissected:

  • What are some juvenile longings for what is forbidden?
  • How do we pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace ?
  • What is a clean mind?
The first question is definitely a personal question, but I know for many of us (myself included) find ourselves longing to look like the women in movies, tv shows, magazines, etc.. And even though we know subconsciously that these women don't even look the way they do when we see them, we still pursue this hopeless effort. As Christ's daughters, should trying to look like the seductive women we see all around us be our main goal?

Questions two and three go together because you cannot pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace without a clean mind.  Isaiah 26:3 says: Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee because he trusteth in Thee." (emphasis added)

So, if we keep our minds stayed on God and what He says, we will automatically have a clean mind.  We will also be able to tell whose minds are stayed on God based on how they treat us and other people.  The apostle Paul in Philippians 4:8 & 9 says:  "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you."

We've studied some pretty heavy truths, but HOW do we prove to the world that we know that life isn't just about make-up or the latest fashions.  How do we prove that we have really broken the chains of the teen girl stereotype?
